rest was a really big album for me, that i come back to a lot, and i had never paid her much attention before and i just became totally obsessed. and around that time i also saw “melancholia” for the first time and her performance in that was just *paralysingly* relatable for me, the way she portrayed that anxiety always sitting just below the skin, and the constant *checking*. so i have just been fascinated by her story for the last couple years and this was such a rewarding read.

really interesting point that there’s a stereotype of french artists being pretentious or gatekeepery about what constitutes art, and that’s in fact pushed her in the other direction, of being hyper self-aware. and that even her father was self-deprecating about where has sat on the “artist” spectrum.

also just stoked to see a woman in her late 40s doing the best work of her life, and people taking notice. women are obviously subject to so many more “rules” than men about who gets to make music and whose music is valued and she is going from strength to strength atm and i love it.

And Rest is one of the best pop albums of the decade, hands-down. Just plain gorgeous
