I did one of those things where I just remembered who Amen Dunes was. I had the album with the blue cover. That dude broke out? It’s like some random act of god reached into my emusic files and just grabbed one of the bands and decided to give them a break. Shit, I mean, nice selection, but Wooden Wand would like to come too. Good memories. I hope this guy makes it huge, and it’s just weird.

I def dig this record… Legit artist keeping at it for YEARS cuZ it’s about the motherfucking art and him saying it’s more like an impulse and he kinda wishes he didn’t write songs but just does. In reply to world on a string. I’ve been to that Ben’s too. I also grew up near one that we always went to when my grandparents visited. And recently I went to one in Florida. I always assumed it was a huge chain but I guess there aren’t that many actually.

Tim Rutili of Califone put “Lilac In Hand” on a mix a few years ago and that was it for me. I’ve listened to Freedom more than any other album this year and am still stirred by how much it moves me with every spin. Thanks for this interview, Ryan and Jonah ~

I ate at Ben's 20 years ago, on the obligatory swing into NYC during the Great Northeast College Tour before my senior year of high school. I want to say I got a burger with salami and mozzarella on it, which is pretty decadent when I look back. New York musicians moving to Los Angeles is just slightly less inevitable than the heat death of the universe.
