She seemed as if she was having a blast. A highlight of the evening was a spectacular rendition of Rowland S. Howard’s Shivers. He’s one of my top three favorite guitarist who passed almost a decade ago and the song, while putting The Boys Next Door (AKA The Birthday Party) and Nick Cave on the map, never struck Howard or even Cave as having been rendered right. Cat Power gave it such a grand, powerful scope – she made a proper home for it. Wow.
If I am being honest though, I heard Woman and couldn’t wait for the album to come out, but was a bit disappointed when I first played it through – I thought it was a bit too subdued. I got it back out about two weeks ago to “prep” for the concert and was blown away – it’s smoky honest blues that sinks deep in your bones. Now I can’t get enough of it.

She seemed more at ease, happier. She played a massive set with so many deep cuts I never expected to hear and at the end she handed out white roses to the audience. I nabbed one for my wife and was beside myself with joy for the whole experience.
After I heard about her son, I connected the dots and realized she had been pregnant at the time. Just made me love her more.

It’s not my favorite by her though. There are a couple of spots that are kinda iffy, but overall it’s another solid Chan record. I adore her though. Hope she does some more touring in the other barren areas of the US.
