I saw Spiritualzed in Buffalo on the Sweet Heart Sweet Light tour in a smaller venue called The Waiting Room which is not in existence anymore. They had a full 3-4 piece backup singer “choir”. It was amazing.
I got too drunk and high and apparently he did too because we went to The Old Pink after the show and I saw him showing up to the bar and he stepped into the metal grates where trees grow right by the road and almost fell. I didn’t go up and say hello after that.

Such a perfect usage of those perfect words.

I’m so happy Stereogum has given it the coverage it deserves.

Good to know that this may not be the end and that hopefully this will mean a tour. This:

“It all starts to make sense when I do the shows and it feels like it’s come through the roof.”

Is so true about his live shows. Make it a priority when it’s announced!

It really paints the confusion that J is faced with over this masterful album. Hopefully it’s not the last we hear from J, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was.

Loved this part: “It is not shocking that Pierce would feel whiplash about suddenly dealing with the banalities of bundles and streaming numbers after spending years trying to make an album that sounds like a satellite transmission. Plenty of artists younger and older than him are just as frustrated or perplexed as to how things are supposed to proceed from here. But the specifics of Spiritualized, and how he works, seem to amplify these kinds of concerns.”

Now I can’t get the idea of a children’s choir in that song out of my head.

Agreed! And I love the Pet Sounds vibes towards the end of “Let’s Dance”.

A Perfect Miracle especially would make wonderful Christmas music. I have no idea what the instruments/techniques are, but something about it is so fluttery and jingly that it immediately deserves a place in the holiday pantheon.

Here’s my question: does anyone else find that the combo of melodies and instrumentation on the new album remind them of Christmas music? Not on every song, but definitely a couple in the early/middle and at least one more closer to the end (sorry to be vague I’ve only heard via the NPR Stream). Similar to the vibe I get from “Olsen Olsen” by Sigur Ros. It’s warm, nostalgic, festive but with a wintry melancholy creeping in. Just me?
