College radio had been making a slow push into the mainstream for most of the previous decade. “Modern Rock” (a term mocked by Nirvana) and Alternative radio were pushed fully into the mainstream by Smells Like Teen Spirit. It made popular albums that were released before it and got a ridiculous number of bands signed after. There is a literal point that you can look to where hair metal died, and that’s it. And I will say again, it happened FAST, and the hair metal guys who lived it will tell you the same thing. The number of bands from that scene who had platinum success after Smells Like Teen Spirit are small, VERY small (Like, Guns n’ Roses), whereas just a year before they were constant.

I’m so glad you liked it! I’ve watched it about 8 times and I’m in the middle of the book. I wish it had been longer. I honestly think Netflix could have turned this into a hugely successful 8 or 12 part series that would have covered the entire book and then some! Even the book can’t cover everything! Perhaps only a fragment of what they actually went through. But knowing the band through years of articles, hundreds of hours of interviews, and finally reading all of their books, The Dirt, The Heroin Diaries, This is Gonna Hurt, Tommyland, and T & T, (forgot the complete title of Vince’s book ” Tequia and”?) – (haven’t finished reading it on-line!), not to mention watching hundreds of hours of live concerts recorded and posted on YouTube, you’re able to better know and understand them personally. I adore Nikki! Nikki is by far my favorite member! Articulate, intelligent, wounded yet a survivor, who has been through so much and successfully come out the other end to really give back for having a 2nd chance at life and music, and a new family as well as the success of his books and amazing photography! He’s the one who really inspires me! Nothing is impossible as long as you don’t give up and you keep at it! His dedication to helping homeless kids & addicts and the money he has donated to his causes are truly amazing! Everything he does now is a way to pay back for being able to make it this far and for getting that shot in the heart! If that hadn’t happened, he would just be another statistic and Motley Crue would have been over back in December of 1987! I think Mick is one of the greatest guitar players I’ve ever heard as well as deeply concerned about his disabilities and health issues, I’ve come to really enjoy and respect Tommy, he’s a phenomenal drummer & performer as well as a romantic gigolo who wears his heart on his sleeve, and Vince… once a real cutie, he definitely had the moves on stage, (perhaps too many off stage as well!) and he was a great singer back in their days! The drinking & drugs have definitely effected his singing and it’s sad to see the damage it’s done. But Vince is a powerful part of Motley Crue so you gotta love him!

The problem with the film is not the story it tells, it is how it tells it. It glorifies everything they do, women are depicted with no personality. You can tell the same story, make them behave the same way, and still show that women have a brain. Just saying.

over the past few year i really got into rock history and yea i actually dig the whole glam to hair metal scene. and i do not dig grunge outside of nirvana, who are fucking dope. but GnR and Nirvana are equally dope its just they are literally the biggest rivals.
