How can the Grammys so consistently have audio/microphone/sound problems? Forget the live mess-ups, how about the repeated sound checks that were blatantly going on while people were presenting? It's almost as if they are more concerned with having Grammy Moments than actually presenting a cogent musical show.

ATCQ+Anderson+Busta+Consequence were my highlight. I don’t expect that kind of intensity from anyone at the Grammys, even a performance I expected to be at least great.

Were Metallica and Gaga really bad though? True, Metallica weren’t introduced, the mic issues definitely killed what the vocal interplay could’ve been, the camera work gave me flashbacks from the worst of the MTV era, but otherwise the mix was pretty good (at least it was heavy), Gaga’s take on an operatic metal voice merged surprisingly well with the band, Kirk’s solo was on point, and the feel of chaotic eccentricity of it all was really entertaining. Also enjoyed Gaga and Hetfield sharing the mic.

eh.. Sandcastles is easily one of the worst songs off the album, a kinda bland generic ballad, but strongly disagreed on “Love Drought” – imo one of the best songs on Lemonade actually one of my fave tracks of the year. but the studio version is better than this (imo pretty divisive) performance

Chance and ATCQ’s performances were both truly exhilarating in a way I was not expecting from the Grammys. There was real, unbridled emotion there. I’ll take either of those over Beyonce’s gorgeous, intricately staged, but ultimately pretty safe and boring performance any day.

I got to say Tribe won the night for me. Beyonce was great as always, but this performance wasn’t as good as her VMA / Tidal performances from 2016. I think its cool that she gave a great live rendition of every song off Lemonade, but “Love Drought” and “Sandcastles” are easily the two worst songs on the album.

As much as the sound was terrible during ATCQ I thought Chance was even worse – I honestly couldn’t tell what song was being performed most of the time. I get the impression that the Grammys struggle when they have to balance, like, an MPC/other electronic gear and live instruments because the levels are never right. Chance’s energy was exciting but that was honestly weak for a dude who generally delivers incredible TV performances. Of course, I also think he picked weird songs even if he wanted to go with a gospel vibe.

I also didn’t hate the Gaga/Metallica performance, mostly because I liked that it was literally Gaga doing Metallica and not trying to make James Hetfield sing “Edge of Glory” or something.

Couple random thoughts in my head…
Has Beyonce performed every song off ‘Lemonade’ on TV at this point?
Does Tori Kelly only exist for award show tributes?
Is there a full version of Sampha’s “Nothing Compares 2 U”?
