As far as the Bowie tribute performance, my biggest complaint was not Lady Gaga, who did a good job, but that they tried to cram in too many songs that really didn’t transition into each other well. It had a feeling of a cheap Las Vegas show medley. Oh and the whole Intel thing which was just crass.

Kendrick was incredible, as always, but does anyone else feel uncomfortable about the way he censors his lyrics for (white) TV audiences? Omitting swear words is one thing, but intentionally leaving out otherwise clean lines in what is supposed to be a powerful and uplifting song (“And we hate po po…” etc.) strikes me as such a copout, especially in the wake of Fox News’ tone-deaf reaction to his BET Awards performance, it seemed like a calculated effort not to ruffle feathers, which to me is entirely contradictory to the stated intentions of the performance.

Both the Eagles and BB King tributes were musically and sonically solid. They both has musical chemistry and stage presence, something lacking from a majority of the other performances. Stevie Wonder performing with the staff of the Silverlake Starbucks was ridiculous. I wanted to swoop in and rescue him. The Lionel Richie tribute was a strange addition in a night with so many in memoriam tributes. Outside of John Legend, the other performers couldn’t hold the stage with Richie’s songs. I left the room…only to return when I heard someone finally doing one of his songs justice. Turns out it was Richie himself.

Gaga’s attempt to honor Bowie was in the right place but was too much style over substance. Completely agree with this statement “Lady Gaga doesn’t know how to be great. At best, she knows how to be interesting.” Which goes for everything in her catalog.

Kendrick deserves to be #1.

Bieber deserves to be last with his milquetoast rendition of Jason Mraz. The only thing that could have saved that performance is if Skrillex busted out a From First To Last song.

That is a more seething indictment of the Lionel Richie tribute that “I’ve heard it” would have been.

100% agree. From time to time, I am heard saying, damn I gotta check this Hamilton show out, but after witnessing that opening song they let us in on, I couldn’t get to Stubhub fast enough to see how I could possibly make it happen. Now if I can only rationalize 1K for two tickets, I’ll be set.

The lady Gaga bit was a mess, and not a fun one. Sounded and looked like speed dating for karaoke fans.

I thought the Glen Frey salute was actually the most heartfelt and sweetest. Would have rather seen gaga take that approach with Bowie.

The Lionel Ritchie tribute was vomit inducing. Demi Lovato, its not about how high your voice can go and pointing the light on yourself.

Hot mess of a night. If there wasn’t a 12 year old in the room with me last night, I woulda watched Vinyl.

It’s sad that Adele can sing out of tune to a broken piano and still have the 3rd best performance of the night. Sad, but not inaccurate.

Ummm. I know Adele’s set had technical difficulties and it wasn’t her fault at all, but her voice was flat throughout almost her entire performance. I love Adele, but that performance was awful.

Once Bieber started, it sounded like the guitar he was using was responsible for the weird background sounds during Adele’s performance, as if he was playing along back stage and no one realized they were micing his acoustic.

I watched most of the show in a bar without sound. I didn’t know who half of those people were until I got on the internet when I got home. The only thing I wish I could have heard was Kendrick’s performance, which looked awesome.

Eventually there’ll be a youtube clip of that performance that stays up for more than 15 min, right?
