It’s a big year for Green Day. With Dookie turning 30 and American Idiot turning 20, the band is currently on a huge stadium tour where they’re playing both albums in full each night. I imagine you need a whole lot of caffeine to pull that off. And so just a week after unveiling their American Idiot Keurig machine, Green Day have announced a coffee collaboration with the punkest of road trip locales, 7-Eleven.

As someone who’s made a career of writing about music for the internet, allow me to offer some sage advice: Don’t piss off a Barb. Nicki Minaj’s online fanbase is ruthless, and they don’t discriminate. Not even towards Minaj herself.

It’s been less than a year since the Smile’s last album, and they’ve already got something else cooking. Earlier this month, they quietly put out a 12″ LP with some new songs called “Don’t Get Me Started” and “The Slip,” the former of which has appeared in their live setlists along with other unreleased tracks. Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, and Tom Skinner have not officially announced a new album, but that might change soon.

Aside from the opportunity to make Drew Barrymore proud, inclement weather and outdoor festivals are not a good mix. Torrential downpour at Burning Man last year left tens of thousands of burners stranded. Reneé Rapp’s set at Leeds Festival on Friday was canceled after extreme rain caused a delay. And while the precipitation let up by the time she was supposed to perform at Reading today, the leftover dampness caused a lot of technical issues, cutting her set short.

Lana Del Rey has not had the best track record lately at UK festivals. Last year, her headlining set at Glastonbury was cut short after she came onstage 30 minutes late. Saturday night at Reading was a similar situation: After arriving about 15 minutes late to her headlining set at that festival, her mic was cut off during the encore, with about five minutes left to go. The festival later apologized and said it was “an error by the Reading production team.”

Chris Hemsworth hosts a National Geographic series called Limitless, which is described as “an epic mission to discover how to live better for longer.” It’s executive produced by Darren Aronofsky, whose films don’t often involve living a good, long life. But I won’t hold that against Hemsworth. For an upcoming episode of the show, the actor learned how to play drums to illustrate how playing an instrument can help you maintain your cognitive health. He flaunted his chops in front of a humble 70,000-person crowd at an Ed Sheeran concert in Romania Saturday night.

Last month, Lana Del Rey shared “Tough,” a twangy trap-pop song with Quavo. The former Migo is credited as the lead artist on that song, so it’s unclear if it’ll appear on Lasso, the country album Lana’s been teasing for a while now. But she did offer a few vague more details on the record in a new interview with Vogue, surrounding her recent headlining set at the Rock en Seine music festival in Paris this week.

Back in March, James Cargill — the surviving member of the wonderful English dream-pop band Broadcast — announced two collections of demos. The first one Spell Blanket – Collected Demos 2006-2009 followed in May, and next month we’re getting Distant Call – Collected Demos 2000-2006, coinciding with what would’ve been the late Trish Keenan’s 58th birthday. It’ll be Broadcast’s final release.

Earlier this year, The The announced Ensoulment, their first new studio album since 2000. Matt Johnson and company are taking the record on the road with a tour through the end of the year, which commenced in Cambridge, England Wednesday night. But they also dug up a few oldies, playing a few songs for the first time in over 30 years.

Recently, twee icons the Softies announced The Bed I Made, their first new album in 24 years. It’s out this Friday, and it’s shaping up to be a pretty sweet comeback; we’ve heard lead single “I Said What I Said” and its follow-up “Tiny Flame,” and today we have “Go Back In Time.”

SNL alum Kyle Mooney has written and directed a disaster comedy for A24 called Y2K. It stars Rachel Zegler and IT’s Jaeden Martell as teenagers who go to a New Year’s Eve party in 1999 that goes all wrong — sort of a Superbad-meets-This Is The End situation (Jonah Hill produced it). Among its crew of supporting actors are a few wild cards, including Fred Durst and the Kid Laroi.

A couple of weeks ago, Foxing announced their upcoming self-titled album with the lead single “Greyhound.” That song came with a music video depicting the members of Foxing at an empty press conference; the chair reserved for Stereogum is quite a few rows back, which we are absolutely not taking personally whatsoever. Anyway, there’s another single out today, this one titled “Hell 99.”

A genuine question for our readers in Guam: How’s the coffee over there? The Democratic National Convention kicked off in Chicago this week, and during Tuesday night’s roll call, each state and US territory chose a song to represent them. Guam chose Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso.”

Contour is a singer, songwriter, and producer from Charleston, South Carolina, who makes arty and complex R&B. His new album Take Off From Mercy — his debut for Mexican Summer — arrives in November, and he’s previewing it today with two singles: “Theresa” and “Gin Rummy.”

Back in June, Norwegian indie-pop singer-songwriter Sondre Lerche announced a reissue of his album Two Way Monologue for its 20th anniversary, including a handful of previously unreleased tracks. Today, he’s sharing “September Something,” an upbeat, jangly song he wrote over two decades ago but hadn’t completed until now.

Atlanta quartet Sword II put out a really great album last year called Spirit World Tour that — despite making fans out of Hotline TNT — sadly went underappreciated. Sword II make trippy, electronica-influenced indie rock in the vein of bands like Spirit Of The Beehive, Feeble Little Horse, and They Are Gutting A Body Of Water, the latter of whom have tapped Sword II for a new single today called “ana orint.”

In Víctor Erice’s 1973 coming-of-age film The Spirit Of The Beehive, a young girl and her sister growing up in 1940s Spain see a mobile cinema’s screening of Frankenstein. “The film’s producers do not wish to present it without a preliminary word of caution,” goes the presenter’s spoken introduction. “But I would encourage you to not take it so seriously.” Six-year-old Ana takes it as gospel. Plagued by unanswerable questions – how could Frankenstein’s monster accidentally kill someone, and why would the villagers murder him in retaliation? – she sets out in search of unknowable answers. The real world’s monsters, she soon discovers, tend to hide in plain sight.

Sexyy Red has had quite an impressive ascent to household name status over the past year and a half. She’s conquering the music world, she’s made waves in the pro wrestling world, and up next, she’s coming to a makeup bag near you. Today, the St. Louis rapper officially announced her makeup line Northside Princess, and its first drop will be an array of lip glosses, which she’s been teasing for a while. But these aren’t your mother’s lip glosses.

Good news for people who love anniversary tours: Modest Mouse are doing one, celebrating 20 years of their landmark 2004 album Good News For People Who Love Bad News. The 21-date trek begins on October 28 in Honolulu, before wrapping up in late November with a three-night stand at Brooklyn Steel. Tickets go on sale this Friday, August 23 at 10:00 a.m. local, and you can find yours at the band’s website.

Styrofoam — the indietronica project of Belgian musician Arne Van Petegem — was quite prolific in the 2000s, putting out seven albums and eight EPs in a decade. But there’s even more where that came from! Today, Petegem has announced The Lost Album (Previously Unreleased Recordings 2000​-​2001), and you can hear two songs from it now.

I know pro-Trump Swifties are out there, but their numbers likely pale in comparison to those who agree with Swift herself. Big Thief have been very busy for a band who only recently parted ways with a founding member. A few weeks ago, they debuted a whopping ten new songs at Portland, Oregon’s Project Pabst, and last week in Belgium, they played another new one called “Taker.”

The best thing Pitbull has done in his career is probably “Timber,” and the best thing about “Timber” is Kesha. But if you go look up “Timber” on YouTube now, you’re greeted with a thumbnail of a lone Mr. Worldwide, with a video title crediting him alone. That wasn’t always the case.

Last weekend, two people were refused entry into London’s O2 Arena because one of them was wearing a shirt that said “Free Gaza.” When the man wearing the shirt offered to turn it inside-out, security — saying they were simply abiding by venue “policy” — told him he still wouldn’t be admitted, because he could theoretically turn the shirt back out again. Security also refused to give the man a different shirt to wear, and wouldn’t even give him a discount at the venue’s merch store. The other person with him luckily took a video of the incident, which went viral, and prompted the venue to issue an apology.

A ferris wheel caught on fire at Highfield Music Festival near Leipzig, Germany over the weekend, injuring at least 30 people. Among those injured, four people suffered burns, one person fell from the gondola, and 18 suffered effects of smoke inhalation. Two are in serious condition, the Independent reports.

Saint Vitus, the legendary and wonderful Brooklyn venue known for its metal, punk, and otherwise heavy shows, has officially closed. The news has been at least a few months in the making: Back in February, the NYC Department Of Buildings (DOB) shut down a Mindforce show at Saint Vitus, and subsequently issued a complaint accusing the Greenpoint club of regularly admitting more than their allotted maximum capacity. (I don’t doubt that residents in the relatively quiet neighborhood had something to do with the shutdown.)

Proposing marriage during a concert is a risky endeavor. Regardless of the embarrassment that could follow in the off-chance that your beloved says “no,” you have to be careful in deciding during which song you’ll pop the question. It might be a song about domestic violence! And with all the horrible shit that can go down at concerts, a stir in the crowd might cause people to jump to some negative conclusions. Which explains why Hozier was concerned when a couple of concertgoers got engaged while he played his song “Cherry Wine” in Madison on Friday.

Paramore, the most demure and mindful band in pop-punk, have been supporting Taylor Swift on the Eras Tour for a while now. The London shows also feature newly-added opening act Suki Waterhouse, who has a fun connection to Paramore: Waterhouse is engaged to Twilight star Robert Pattinson, and Paramore wrote their 2008 song “Decode” for that movie’s soundtrack. And so Hayley Williams gave a heartfelt shoutout to Edward Cullen himself before playing that song Saturday night. Very cutesy. Very respectable.

Orville Peck, who famously keeps his face hidden in public, did a song for a movie in which faces play an important thematic role. The movie in question is Skincare, Austin Peters’ satirical thriller starring Elizabeth Banks as an aesthetician who suspects that a rival might be trying to sabotage her career. Peck’s contribution to its soundtrack is the new single “Permanently Lonely.”

St. Vincent — who has some strong feelings about cover songs — sang the National Anthem at the Los Angeles Sparks game Thursday night. Annie Clark rang in the game at the Crypto.com Arena, where she flaunted some of her dribbling skills backstage beforehand. While wearing heeled boots! Also, Robin Thicke sang at the game for some reason.

The Blessed Madonna has been putting out a whole lot of music and remixes in the past few years, but the DJ has yet to put out a full LP. That changes this October with Godspeed, her newly-announced debut album. As a preview, she’s shared the new single “Edge Of Saturday Night,” featuring Kylie Minogue.

Millennials grew up with the Punk Goes Pop covers album series. They might’ve also grown up with the Disneymania covers album series. Now, we’re getting A Whole New Sound, which combines those two premises into one. The 12-track album — on which pop-punk artists cover Disney hits — arrives this October.

Over the past few months, the moody synth-pop duo Cold Cave have shared a handful of singles: “She Reigns Down,” “Shadow Dance,” “Blackberries,” and “Hourglass.” Turns out, those are the first four tracks of their upcoming album Passion Depression, which is out in October.

We have an epidemic here in the live music world. Earlier this month at Lollapalooza, Vince Staples brought a fan onstage to rap “Big Fish“; the guy didn’t exactly nail it, but at least he did the right song. That was not the case for the fan Blink-182 brought onstage in Columbus on Tuesday night.

Indie rock veterans Nada Surf are getting ready to drop their new album Moon Mirror next month. So far, they’ve shared the singles “In Front Of Me Now” and “New Propeller,” and we’re getting another sample of the record today with “Losing.”

Dave Stewart, one-half of Eurythmics, has had a wildly busy life working with a whole bunch of extremely famous artists: Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers, Bob Dylan, Katy Perry, Mick Jagger, Jon Bon Jovi, Sinéad O’Connor, and a lot more. But he’s also done a lot of work in musical theater and movies, and when he released his 2022 triple album Ebony McQueen, he billed it as the first steps of a semi-autobiographical musical. Now, Deadline reports that Ebony McQueen, the film musical, is one step closer to reality.
