It wasn’t a longhorn, it was a ’59. Traded mine straight up for a silvertone u1 once prop 8 happened.

Same. I can’t be bothered with going back to anything on Punisher, despite a bunch of good faith efforts. There’s nothing as good as “Funeral”, “Smoke Signals” or her cover of “You Missed My Heart.” Punisher sounds like trying to court indie success rather than writing from the heart.

I don’t find her backing vocals add anything to any of the tracks she’s on either, besides “Silk Chiffon”, which I think is a delightful sugary piece of pop.

What you got against Los Del Rio?

They are not “Macarena” and were probably as perplexed as anybody about their sudden ascension to fame. They were journeyman Latin pop singers for over 20 years before someone took one of their throwaway tunes and put a dance beat to it. Of course they rode the hype wave… who wouldn’t?

We just celebrated the 25th anniversary of the “Macarena” a few months ago. Los Del Rio may be the Chubby Checker of the 1990’s, but no one made them into more than what they were, the ultimate one hit wonder!

Punisher is one of the most overrated albums of the past 10 years.

It’s the pop culture celeb status for sure. When her romance life gets covered in Deux Mois, her tour dates sell out in minutes, and she’s saturating the market with guest spots (and headliners for it,) the backlash is anticipated.

I do think artists needs to explore expanding their selection on backing vocals or guest spots, though. Phoebe probably made more off royalties from those tracks than most indie artists did putting out new albums this year.

Enough of the mid-20th-century notion of “cool” has endured that people who really want to be and enjoy being famous are rightly regarded with suspicion
