Fascinating movie

Adam Driver’s best movie and TV roles to date

Adapted from ShÅ«saku Endō’s novel, “Silence” is rich in content, symbolism and outstanding performance from its cast. The story centers on two Portuguese Jesuit priests – played by Driver and Andrew Garfield – who travel to Japan to try to locate their mentor, Father Ferreira (Liam Neeson), who is said to have abandoned his religion.

For director Martin Scorsese, “Silence” was a passionate project which had been in gestation for almost 30 years; so getting the right cast was essential. Garfield and Driver both showed incredible commitment to their roles, according to this interview in TimeOut, undertake spiritual training, silent retreats and weight loss to prepare for the grueling shoot. The driver’s father, Garupe, has comparatively less screen time than Garfield, but he has a huge impact in a short period of time. “Silence” is a film that deals with very dense and thematically difficult subjects, and although it is not always easy to watch, Driver is fascinating.

As is surely the case with most actors, having the opportunity to work with Martin Scorsese was a dream come true for Driver. Talk with The independent, Driver said, “He’s at the top of the filmmaker’s pyramid. I grew up watching his movies and just to talk with him or work with him on something you can’t even imagine. It’s so exciting. . ” Scorsese also spoken loudly de Driver, calling him “one of the best, if not the best, actors of his generation.”
