Lodestar Trio – Bach to folk (Naxos, 2022)
Bach To Folk is the compelling debut album from Lodestar Trio, a groundbreaking ensemble that includes Max Baillie, Olav Luksengård Mjelva and Erik Rydvall. The three musicians present a combination of well-known baroque compositions, traditional Scandinavian folk and new works.
The world music trio mixes classical violin music with Scandinavian string instruments. Lodestar Trio includes Max Bailie (UK) on violin, Olav Luksengård Mjelva (Norway) on Norwegian Hardanger violin and Erik Rydvall (Sweden) on Swedish nyckelharpa.
Max Baillie, Olav Luksengård Mjelva and Erik Rydvall are all individually highly regarded musicians. Max is a British violin virtuoso who has worked with Steve Reich and John Williams; Olav is a founding member of the Norwegian-Swedish band Sver and Nordic Fiddlers Bloc; and Erik, is one of the founders of the award-winning folk music trio Nordic.
Lodestar Trio performed their first gig in London in April 2018 and appeared live on the BBC, Norwegian radio and were featured on Classic FM.
