Cloverdale’s Elevated Music is two years old.
Owner Bill Haggerty can’t believe it’s been two years since he opened his music store.
“The last two years have been amazing,” Haggerty said. “Our expectations were disappointed. The whole experience was amazing.
Haggerty said several highlights of the past two years stick in his mind, such as the multiple Record Store Day sales they’ve held, his Clovie Award win, and the store’s one-year anniversary celebration, but the most Big highlight for him was the customers.
“Community support has been massive,” Haggerty said. “Every month it is growing exponentially.”
Last year, Haggerty said he was “absolutely thrilled” to be nominated for a Clovie award for young entrepreneur of the year. At the time, he said it was “a real honor to be recognized” alongside other deserving entrepreneurs.
Haggerty ended up winning the award and he said the process was humbling.
“After the effort and energy we put into building the whole store ourselves, I focused on the store,” he said. “There were a lot of things that worked in our favor when we opened, but I was shocked and honored to have won the award. There were a lot of worthy candidates.”
Haggerty said he expected to face more challenges, but community support was the definitive thing that made his first two years easier than he thought.
“When we opened during the pandemic, I thought it might have been an insurmountable obstacle, but we started to exceed our expectations and business picked up,” he explained. “The community has really supported us. That’s when I knew everything would be fine. »
Haggerty said he loved Cloverdale and was glad he chose to open his store here.
Being born and raised in Surrey he knew he wanted to open the shop somewhere in Surrey. Finding a place in Cloverdale was just the icing on the cake.
“I’ve always loved the historical aspect of Cloverdale. So being here is really great.
To mark their second anniversary, Elevated Music will be hosting a special celebration on August 14.
“We’ll have a free cake and a 15% sale off the entire store,” Haggerty said. “We’ll have some amazing freebies and raffles and scrapbooks on the floor that we’ve been holding just for the day.”
Elevated has around 10,000 records on hand and can order just about anything. The shop also buys and sells cassettes, records and CDs.
