Stevens empowers Layton against Clearfield

Layton defeated Clearfield 49-38 behind a monster night out by Cheryl Stevens. She recorded a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds as the Lancers claimed their first regional victory of the season.

Mallory Packard and Jocelyn Martinez each recorded nine points out of a 3-point trio as the downtown attack played a central role in the game.

“We lost a few players and my young players stepped up and played amazingly to help the team have a great win,” said Layton coach Rob Reisbeck.

Highland wins on the road against Olympus

The Rams took a 26-17 halftime lead but had a tough third quarter and ended up trailing one into the final period.

Highland’s defense allowed just five runs in the fourth quarter as the Rams escaped with a 45-39 victory over the Titans.

Sosefina Langi, Sophie Legate and Cecilia Olevao all scored in double digits in the win, while Alyssa Blanck knocked down five to 3 points on her way to 18 points and seven rebounds for Olympus.

When asked about the game, Highlands coach Sala Asiata simply said: “Our girls had a great time tonight.”

Carbon claims victory over Canyon View in physics game

Carbon allowed just 11 points in the first half as a strong defensive performance turned into a 47-28 triumph.

The game only featured 17 field goals combined, but the Dinos managed to score 25 for 37 from the free throw line.

Sophomore Madi Orth went 13 for 16 and scored a total of 15 points.

“It was our senior leadership, especially in defense, that secured the victory,” said Carbon coach Cami Carlson.

Enterprise wins relentless victory over San Juan

Noah Moyle led all scorers with 18 points as the Wolves defended the home court to claim a 44-38 victory over the Broncos.

Enterprise managed to take a double-digit lead in the first quarter and tackle a late rally from San Juan.

Halli Palmer and Serina Yanito each scored three 3-pointers to help the Broncos come back into the game, but didn’t have enough offensive firepower in the dying minutes.

Enterprise moves to 1-1 in Region 19 and will continue its four home games next Thursday when it hosts the Parowan Rams.
