Fascinating movie

Jordan Peele’s Nope could be the movie of the summer

In the years since Jordan Peele released his social horror opus get out, there have been tons of imitators (we’re looking at you, Amazon Them), but none have managed to come close to reality. So the news that the comedian/author’s third directing effort, due out in July, sees him once again teaming up with get out directing Daniel Kaluuya – and the drafts in the ever-brilliant Keke Palmer and Steven Yeun, too – is damn exciting.

Although the trailer doesn’t reveal much, Nope is clearly another paranormal social horror with a mystery at its heart. Kaluuya and Palmer play ranchers James and Jill Haywood in a small town in California, who bear witness to a “strange and chilling discovery”, which, judging by the trailer, could be aliens, ghosts or possible extraterrestrial ghosts.

The trailer is mostly an ambient recording, with little real dialogue and…yes, it’s definitely a Jordan Peele movie, and it looks like a lot of fun. Check out the clip below.

Although reluctant to give anything away, Peele revealed the inspiration behind the film’s title.

“I love a thrilled audience that says, ‘No! or “Get out of the house!” he told a panel at the CinemaCon film industry conference in April. “I like to encourage this interaction because that’s what gives the audience a unique experience. Roller coasters aren’t fun on their own. Being scared is not fun alone. You need this energy.

get out made £208 million at the box office and Peele won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. His 2019 follow-up, Weimproved with £216m. Nope going to be a big one.

Nope hits UK cinemas on July 22.
