Musical Theater West Announces 2023 Season Featuring THE SOUND OF MUSIC, THE WIZARD OF OZ and More

The Musical Theater West in Long Beach has announced its lineup for the upcoming 2023 season. Promising to be one of its most exciting seasons yet, MTW’s 2023 season features an outstanding collection of beloved classics from the screen, which come to life on stage. Musical Theater West’s 2023 season lineup includes:

9 to 5: The Musical | February 10 – 26, 2023

Based on the hit movie, with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and a book of Patricia Resnick, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.: The musical is a hilarious tribute to corporate sisterhood and workplace revenge! Shortly after three co-workers share their fantasies of how they would give the boot to their sexist, selfish and oppressive boss, events conspire to allow them to take control of the company that is holding them back. Hey, a girl can plot, can’t she?

An American in Paris | April 14 – 30, 2023

An American soldier, a seductive French woman, and an indomitable European town each yearn for a fresh start in the aftermath of World War II. Inspired by the Oscar-winning 1951 film, An American in Paris features an enchanting score by George and Ira Gershwina fresh and sophisticated book by Pulitzer Prize nominee and finalist Tony Craig Lucasand stunning choreography, from tap dancing to ballet, that will blow your mind!

The Wizard of Oz | July 7 – 23, 2023

We are going to see the magician! This timeless story of a Kansas farm girl who journeys across the rainbow – to find there’s no place like home – has captivated audiences for generations. Follow the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City in this charming stage adaptation of L. Frank Baumis a timeless classic. Filled with brains, heart and courage, and featuring the iconic music from the MGM movie, The Wizard of Oz is sure to be fun for the whole family!

The sound of music | October 20 – November 5, 2023

A story of hope in the face of mounting horrors, this ultimate collaboration between Richard Rodgers & Oscar Hammerstein He became known and loved all over the world. Maria, a free-spirited postulant, is sent to govern seven motherless children. Through patience, kindness and a love of music, she eventually wins the hearts of the children and their father, but the family soon has to make the unthinkable choice of fleeing their homeland.

MTW performances will be held at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center located at 6200 E. Atherton St, Long Beach, CA 90815.
