A new professional retraining?

According IndieWire, Tarantino’s interest in writing books isn’t new. He sees writing books as a way to stay creative when he’s no longer working behind the camera. Previously, the writer/director wrote that he had planned a separate novel about a World War II veteran who, after returning home, unresponsive to Hollywood after what he’s been through, finds refuge in the international cinema.

“I have this character who was in World War II, and he saw a lot of bloodshed there,” Tarantino said of his other upcoming novel. “And now he’s back home, and it’s like the 50s, and he doesn’t respond to movies anymore. He finds them juvenile after everything he’s been through. For him, Hollywood movies are And then, all of a sudden, he starts hearing about these foreign films of Kurosawa and Fellini.

However, it turns out that the book was, in fact, the Once upon a time in Hollywood novel. Which Tarantino had adapted from his film of the same name, the ninth and penultimate entry in his filmography. Said veteran returning character was Cliff Booth, whose actor Brad Pitt won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for starring.

HarperCollins announced that Cinema Speculation will be set for an October 25, 2022 release date. It would also be the first non-fiction book Tarantino has written. In what could be a second career as a novelist once his work in the film industry is over. It will also be interesting to see how well the book sells, because while Tarantino has many admirers, he also has many critics.

Tarantino has been called out multiple times for using racial slurs in his movies. There’s also the discourse surrounding his depiction of martial arts icon Bruce Lee in the Once upon a time in Hollywood. There’s also his behavior on the set of Kill Bill, where Uma Thurman injured herself doing a stunt he forced her to do.
