Dragon Ball Super is now making its way across Japan with its next major feature, and the series creator behind it all has explained why Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero hasn’t featured Goku and Vegeta as the main stars! When Toei Animation first teased the details of the new movie, one of the things they initially bragged about was that the movie would lead to the birth of a new “superhero.” It was soon revealed that what they meant by this was that Gohan and Piccolo would take center stage against the main threats this time around.
dragonball Series creator Akira Toriyama previously explained that he cast Gohan and Piccolo to play the lead roles in the film because they hadn’t shined enough in the franchise’s spotlight so far. In a new review the creator shared for the movie now that he got to see the finished final draft, Toriyama went into more detail on this and explained that Goku and Vegeta aren’t the main stars as he wanted to tell a scale much smaller. story than what has been seen in the franchise’s past.
“Before that, stories were set in space or other large-scale settings like this, so this time I wanted to take things back to their roots and set the story in just a small area of the world. Earth,” Dragon Ball series creator Akira Toriyama explained in his review of Dragon Ball Super: Super Heroes. Continuing further, he noted why the Red Ribbon Army returned, “Besides, the enemy is the Red Ribbon Army, which didn’t make much of a splash in the original manga serialization.”
Toriyama then explained that he was worried about what a lack of Goku and Vegeta would mean, “And to top it off, Goku and Vegeta aren’t the protagonists. While I was trying to make this an interesting story, I was worried the whole time that maybe it’s a little simple.” But then, looking at the final draft, Toriyama praised the anime team for how they were able to bring the film’s fights to life. Luckily, it won’t be long before you see it all in action.
