With Glass onion: a mystery at loggerheads will hit select theaters soon and debut on Netflix next month, fans are asking, “Will there be a Knives out 3If director Rian Johnson has any say in it, the answer will be yes.

The Glass onion: a mystery at loggerheads the director does not hesitate to want to “dive” into the making of the Knives out films a trilogy. Glass Onionwhich is the continuation of 2019 Knives outis heading for a one-week limited theatrical release on November 23. But ahead of the limited theatrical debut, Johnson is already considering what the future of the franchise might be like.

“I thought for a while that maybe I should do something else first […] But the honest truth from God is that I had so much fun making this one, and the creative challenge of coming up with a third film that’s completely different from both this one and the first – right now, that’s the challenge most interesting creative for me. Then I might just dive in and see what we come up with. Johnson, 48, said in an interview with Total Film.

Johnson, who also directed the 2019 films Knives outwants to make sure the films are “new and surprising” while maintaining the style of master mystery writer Agatha Christie.

“The second we feel like we’re repeating ourselves or just cranking a machine, we stop. Because to me, the whole design of this whole series is the same way Agatha Christie did with her books – we do something new and surprising every time. Johnson adds.

Why is Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery premiering in theaters?

So why the theatrical release of Glass onion: a mystery at loggerheads if it is scheduled to air on Netflix on December 23rd? It’s a strategic choice by Netflix, so the film is eligible for the Oscars as well as other award-winning organizations. Most film critics associations require a one-week run time in physical theaters for a film to be eligible for the awards.

Glass Onion actually had its world premiere a few months ago at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10, 2022. The new film stars Edward Norton, Kate Hudson, Dave Bautista, Janelle Monae, and Kathryn Hahn. And of course, Daniel Craig is back as Detective Benoit Blanc.

Craig, 54, recently told the media how much he loves Johnson’s ability to bring out the “best” in everyone.

“His way of bringing out the best in people, I admire him so much. It’s a wonderful way to lead, and everyone feels happy to be there. feels good,” says Craig. “The vibe is light and creative – he creates this atmosphere on set that feels like a wonderful cauldron of creativity. It’s a joy to be around.
