Young people enjoy a day of fun games with a handball open day

Dozens of children from across Devon traveled to a special event to try their hand at one of the UK’s most exciting and dynamic sports.

Families descended on the Park Community School Sports Center in Barnstaple for a free handball open day, with around 150 youngsters taking part in a variety of fun games and activities.

The popular event was organized by England Handball and Bideford Blacks Handball Club. It was attended by people aged 6 to 11 – many of whom are new to the sport.

It was hoped the day would encourage young people across the county to consider handball as an alternative or alongside traditional sports such as football and netball – and organizers said the response from the local community was “fantastic”.

Stacey Andrews, Head of Domestic Partnerships at England Handball, said: “We have been delighted to see such strong turnout from youngsters and their families from across Devon.

“The kids got a taste of what handball really is – an exciting, action-packed, high-scoring team sport perfect for boys and girls of all ages.

“We received excellent feedback. Many told us they’d love to play it as part of their school PE class – and I think some may even have left the session with a new favorite sport.

England Handball said that following the resounding success and great public response for the open day, which catered to children of all abilities, it will now look to launch similar events across the country over the coming weeks and years. coming months.
